This Week in History May 4, 1865 President Lincoln and his young son Willie are laid to rest during rites at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois. May 7, 1858 Lincoln successfully defends William ("Duff") Armstrong in a murder trial at the Beardstown, Illinois courthouse. May 9, 1860 Lincoln is introduced at the Illinois State Republican Convention as the "Rail Candidate" for President. President Lincoln's last funeral is held in Springfield, Illinois, followed by burial the next day.
