Infantry Sculpture Group

Like the other three battle groups at the Lincoln tomb, this one was sculpted in Italy and cast in Chicopee, Massachusetts. The federal government donated 65 old cannon for the casting material. The completed work arrived at the tomb in September 1877.

You can see the Infantry Group on the west side (left front) of the tomb. A gift from the city of Chicago, it depicts soldiers on the march. Even the drummer boy has drawn a revolver as the group prepares to charge.
