Old State Capitol

This original cloth campaign banner which promotes Abraham Lincoln and his first running mate, Hannibal Hamlin, hangs in the hallway of the second floor, just outside Representatives Hall.

When Lincoln was nominated by the Republican National Convention in 1860, he did not attend the convention and had not been introduced to Hamlin. However, both men had served in Congress in the 1840s; Lincoln in the U.S. House of Representatives and Hamlin in the Senate.
