Schwartz Statue in Washington, D.C.

If you visit President Lincoln's Cottage you can see an unusual sculpture of Lincoln and his horse. Located on the grounds of the Soldiers' Home in northwest Washington, the full-size bronze work was dedicated in November 2008, the same year the Cottage opened to the public after a lengthy restoration, just prior to the 200th anniversary of Lincoln's birth.

The sculpture recalls Lincoln's presence at the Soldiers' Home, where he and his family stayed during three summers of his presidency. The family lived in the secluded location while Lincoln commuted three miles to the White House, often on horseback.

The statue grouping was designed by sculptor Ivan Schwartz of New York, who also produced a Lincoln statue for the Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania.
